8/30/18 #kihei We offered supportive testimony at South Maui Councilor Kelly King’s Planning Committee this morning concerning the fast approaching sea level rise. We addressed that while it is of course a world wide issue, our kuleana is to express concerns for this community, and boy do we need to plan for this.
The start of the meeting was delayed because once again with only three Councilors present at 9:00 AM, Chair King did not have quorum, but about 9:05 late arriving Yuki Lea Sugimura made an all wahine fourth and meeting commenced absent voting members Guzman, Hokama and White again.
But wait, another delay as Akaku, Maui Community Media technical problems screening the meeting arose, so quick recess, then another just before our testimony, but then it was a go.
So we offered our support, and the resolution was approved 5-0, as by now Hokama showed up at 9:40 AM.

There is a lot of erosion happening at Waipuilani Park. Soon the sand dune on the coast will be gone. This could be slowed down by planting beach morning glory there. A palm tree on the edge will fall soon; it could be saved.
Mahalo, Al. Sure you are aware this is a County Park. So probably first action would be to ask the Parks Dept if they would take this measure, if they are in agreement 270-7230
Also the outstanding Coastal Geologist Tara Owens from UH, but who is on loan to the County government is a great adviser taram@hawaii.edu,
She was at this Council meeting explaining the process.
