As many in our community suffered severe damage earlier this year, we are  posting this public service message.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, a federal agency, is providing low-interest disaster loans to residents, renters, businesses, and private nonprofits affected by the severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in Hawaii occurring March 10–24, 2026.  We would appreciate your help in sharing these resources with your audience/members in the Maui, Honolulu, Hawaii, Kalawao, and Kauai counties,  so that all affected individuals and organizations have an opportunity to apply and access the financial assistance they may need.

Key details

  • No cost to apply.
  • No need to take the loan if qualified.
  • Eligible areas: Hawaii, Honolulu, and Maui counties (The Economic Injury Disaster (EIDL) loan eligibility also extends to adjacent Kalawao and Kauai).
  • Physical damage filing deadline: June 14, 2026.
  • EIDL filing deadline: January 7, 2027.

Highlights

  • Interest rates (as low as): 2.875% homeowners/renters; 4.000% businesses; 3.625% private non-profits.
  • Maximum loan amounts:
    • Up to $500,000 for primary residences
    • Up to $100,000 for personal property
    • Up to $2,000,000 for businesses/non-profits
  • Flexible terms: Up to 30 years; no payments and no interest for the first 12 months after disbursement.
  • Mitigation: Up to 20% loan increase for verified mitigation improvements.
