If you ever drive, bike, walk, run, push a stroller, skateboard or move along on the northern portion of South Kihei Road (SKR) you know about the wind-blown sand on the roadway. It happens continuously and is unstoppable. It can be annoying and it can be dangerous, so the County Department of Public Works (DPW) sends out a crew on occasion to remove it from the road surface.
Yes, it means a lane closure and alternate routes and backups, and we had it all this morning, but if the winds cooperate, it will be clear for a while.
This fix will not be as easy when sea levels rise and flood the roadway.
