KCA has been a very strong supporter of the Pump Don’t Dump group for several years, and link to that website, www.pumpdontdump.com remains of our own homepage with a select group. The strong actions of this unfunded grass roots group finally caused the cessation of much of the human waste dumping by commercial charter boats within the Whale Sanctuary. This week we became aware that truck pump out service run by Maui County for several years, ceased on 2/28/13, seemingly with the expectation that the long overdue refurbishing of Maalaea Small Boat Harbor, including fixed sewage pump outs and a waste-water treatment facility, would eliminate the need. KCA continues to commend the County Administrations who have supported this community need, even though most agree it is a State government kuleana. When the community demanded government action to help rectify the despicable practice of many commercial charter boat companies of dumping human waste, at times mixed with chemicals , into the Whale Sanctuary Waters of South Maui, the County government took action. KCA plans to give updates of the situation at out next public meeting 3/19/13 at 6:30 PM
