The draft South Maui Drainage Plan in 2017 proposed to divert and combine streams and add a concrete culvert that would rush storm water onto the coral reefs instead of allowing the water to be absorbed mauka of the highway and filtered by wetlands before entering the ocean. The south Maui community was not happy and it asked the County to contract expert Amanda Cording to provide an environmentally friendly alternative. Amanda and our south Maui water expert Robin Knox will present and discuss their findings.
