Did you know that you can easily sign up to receive official County of Maui emergency events and/or road closure alerts via email or text? These are different from the messages you get from the national public warning system because they are specific to Maui Country and will warn you about severe weather, high-wind/surf, bushfires, road closures, and more. It’s free to sign up and it only takes a couple of seconds.
- Go to this website: https://www.mauicounty.gov/list.aspx.
- Enter your email address and tap/click on Notify Me Sign In.
- If you wish to get texts as well, tap the box that says “I would like to be able to receive text messages on my mobile phone.”
- Add your phone number and tap/click Save.
- You’ll get a notification that your subscription details have been updated.
- Now you can go down the list to see what alerts you wish to receive.
- Scroll down to the Alert Center section and tap the email and/or phone icon to subscribe to Emergency Press Releases, the Emergency Road Closure Notifications, or both.
I recommend looking through the list of other alerts in case there is anything that might interest you. There are lots of committees on all sorts of relevant issues that you might want to learn more about. If you ever feel overwhelmed with alerts, you can either tap/click “Unsubscribe from All Lists” under Your Profile Information or tap on the relevant icon of whatever topic you wish to stop hearing about.
I have been subscribed to Maui Emergency Management Agency’s alerts via text and email for almost four years now and have never received any unwanted spam or had any problems. Unlike the Emergency Alert System (EAS) notifications, you will only receive these are regular text and emails so you won’t be disturbed if your phone is silenced. Stay safe out there everyone!
