The Kihei Community Association reviewed Nelsons Wedding and Catering project. We seek your comments and questions about this project.
The applicant is proposing to develop a 6,816 square feet commercial building; 41 on?site parking stalls, one (1) loading zone, landscape planting, and associated infrastructure improvements on a 39,137 square feet parcel located at 85 North Kihei Road, Kihei, Maui, Hawaii; TMK No: (2) 3?8?013: 011 (See: Figure Nos. 1, 2, and 3 “Regional Location”, “Aerial Location”, and “Tax Map Key”).
The zoning on the property is B?R Resort Commercial. The Community Plan designation is Business. The subject property is an infill parcel that is situated along North Kihei Road, between the Kihei Sands condominiums to the north and the Nani Kai Hale condominiums to the south. Access to the project site will be via two driveways. The first is an existing driveway along the south side of North Kihei Road located at the western end of the parcel. Since there is a median along North Kihei Road adjacent to the project, use of this driveway will be restricted to right turns in and right turns out only. The second driveway is located along the eastern boundary of the parcel. This driveway connects the project with South Kihei Road. All movements are allowed at this driveway.
The purpose of the development is to offer a full?service venue for weddings and special events in a beach side tropical setting. The facility will have a wedding banquet room, restaurant, and retail space.
