After KCA offered testimony in support of this proposed ban of mopeds on bicycle paths, including ours set to open on 7/29/11, the County Infrastructure Management Committee, chaired by Council Member Elle Cochran, unanimously approved the measure to move to the full Council for a hearing and vote. Additional testimony in support were offered by long time bicycle advocates Walter Enomoto and Dave DeLeon, as well as attorny Phillip Lowenthal of Haiku. A letter published in Maui News on same day of the hearing expressed the community opinion of the need. http://mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/551292/County-needs-to-address-motorized-vehicles-on-paths.html?nav=18. To clarify, this prohibition of mopeds ONLY applies to this this single location of the under construction path along Liloa, and not to any bike lanes along county and state roads through South Maui, and not the bike path mauka the Mokulele Highway. KCA will await the announcement of the full Council hearing on this proposed amendment to advise our community.
