    When are move in dates ..ive been waiting ..April 1st was what i was told..praying that happens as im running out of time where im temporarily staying.

    But when people join you have the power to have them removed. You control all content and if it differs from yours you decide if they can be on committees or not. You have way too much control. I’ve lost faith and respect for this organization controlled solely by you.

    Oh lord. I live on SKR. THE ROAD SHOULD BE ONE WAY TRAFFIC. WOULD BE MUCH SAFER. YOU CAN GET KILLED ON S KIHEI ROAD.

    For many years there have been proposals about making SKR one way , but for even more years the NSCR never gets completed so how do you get the vehicles going in the opposing direction? Currrenly the next section of NSCR might be open in 2024 or 2025 , but even then there’d be lack of continuity. The failure to follow the Community Plan from 1998 falls on all the past administrations

    I was prepared for a road closure, but as a resident of the Villas at Kenolio, we now have to endure no beach access. Following 1.5 years of being polluted with dust, noise, traffic, and construction debris from this project, this is the final straw. We should minimally have pedestrian access on Kaonaoula Drive and reparations for all the dust and debris damage that has occurred. They may be Goodfellows, but they are Bad Neighbors!

    We agree & expressed that to all those involed entities( County DPW, Hilton Vacation, their planner as well as this contractor, GBI) to no avail. It goes way beyond your AOAO as we posted on this site. It is the entire neighborhood on both sides of Kaonoulu and north of that street to near Ohukai which is the next access to SKR & the beach No walking & no bicycling unless you want to try either on the 4 lane undivided highway especally at the pinch point crossing the Kulanihakoi River gulch. AND this is planned to continue until late summer!

    Thanks for the support Mike. As a beacgoer, runner and bicyclist that lives in the middle of this, I know all too well, that our AOAO is only a small portion of the area and people affected. I have contacted Tina Wildberger at (808) 586-8525 and Mike Victorino at (808) 270-7855 to voice my strong opposition and concern. I encourage others to do the same! #GoodfellowsBadNeighbors

    You are welcome, Brian. We are all in this together. While it is always good to alert all elected officials. as Rep Wildberger is a State official, and this is a County government action,she has no kuliana here, but she can & likely will express her thoughts to the Mayer. Direct contact to the Mayor is spot on for ths situation. Honestly we are unclear what power GBI has in this decision, as they are contracted by Hilton Vacation to do the project. We expect the ones who can modify this very poor plan are the Mayor and his team and Hilton Vacation. Aloha

    I used to be on this committee and for some unknown reason…perhaps a disagreement with Mike Moran…I was suddenly and without merit removed. Is it possible that disagreeing with Mike is grounds for dismissal? This may be part of the problem with KCA…when one person has too much power and don’t see eye to eye with him. Unfortuate.

    Thank you for your extensive work to help sort out this nightmare, proposed Mega Mall and the problems with political appointees to deal with very important issues dealing with Kihei’s future (and Mau’s future). We are very fortunate that you stepped up to share your professional expertise to unravel this problem, and give direction going forward.

    What a well researched and written analysis of past wrongs that show a clear cut need for professional county planning and zoning management. People should vote for the proposed charter change.

    Last spring, I contacted the Maui Refuse supervisor to ask why there is not a Regular residential hazardous waste program on Maui He checked with his managers, and was embarrassed to say he did not know why they don’t have a program to regularly dispose of hazardous waste. The “annual” ONE-DAY Hazardous Waste Collection s simply not good enough. Many folks have no way to collect hazardous waste for a year, or possibly take time off work to transport the waste. What happens as a result, much of the hazardous waste ends up in the regular garbage, which ends up in the island dump. This is not environmentally acceptable!

    Where I lived in San Mateo County, CA, easy appointments can be made Monday thru Friday to deliver hazardous waste. Sometimes, arrangements an be made for pick-up. In South Lake Tahoe, CA, hazardous waste can be delivered to the refuse collection site WITHOUT APPOINTMENT, every Tuesday and Saturday. Like Hawaii, the Lake Tahoe Basin is environmentally sensitive, and we do not want household hazardous waste (or commercial waste) to be dumped into our grounds, waterlands, meadows, or Lake Tahoe!

    I sent a email last year to Kelly King about this issue, and never had the courtesy of a reply – sorry to say. We need to develop a better program to deal with household hazardous waste and protect our Aina!

    I was born on Oahu, and almost 20 years ago, I was able to purchase my property in Kihei. I try to spend the winters in Kihei and summers at Lake Tahoe. This year, I cancelled my flight & time on Maui this Spring because of COVID-19, and hope to get back to Maui by fall. I plan to join KCA and also offer to pay my tenants’ first dues if they elect to join. I appreciate all the hard work that KCA does for our community and our island!

    Hi Judi.
    Mahalo for commenting on this matter and your kind words about KCA. First some background about this event. For many years there was no reasonable way for residents to properly dispose of household generated hazmat . We believe action at a KCA meeting several years ago was what changed that.

    So while an annual collection may not be satisfactory, five years ago we had no collection at all, but community action changed that for he better.
    As KCA is “dedicated to protecting, sustaining and enhancing our ‘aina kai and ‘ohana,” we have always advocated for the three “R’s”- last resort is recycling. But on an isolated island in the middle of the Pacific, it is much more challenging than on the mainland.
    Some would say what we do here is not recycling, it is gathering and shipping to distant lands several products to divert them from our landfill. So it is much more complicated that what is done on the mainland.
    We have made great strides in the first (best) R- reduce, with the plastic bag reduction act several years ago and more recently Styrofoam and single use plastic bans. If you reduce import of products, no need to export them later.
    As far as what action might be done to improve this annual event, you might consider contacting Council Member Shane Sinenci who is chair of the
    Chair of the Environmental, Agricultural, and Cultural Preservation Committee.
    Another variation from most places, in our county all nine councilmembers represent all residents regardless of which district is home. Their division is more about what than where

    Aloha Mr Moran , Please pardon my late response to your comment on my comment of March 1,2020 . My physical limitations are some what a burden at my age and getting around to my many concerns takes longer to get to than i’d like, I want you to know ,how much I appreciate your responding to my letter. I’m sure you get your share of “To do list” and should do suggestions. My intention was what I call “Food for thought”. Thank you for setting me straight as to KCA being a 100% volunteer ,unfunded non profit . Rereading your comment I cant help but feel ,I ‘m being told “there’s nothing we can do for you ,take your concerns to the mayor , DPW. or other public officials. I am disappointed here ,at the very least ,one might consider saying , We hear your concerns , and thank you for sharing them with us . We are limited but , we will pass your concerns on to those who would be more in a position to act on them. Hopefully others who think making /sharing any concerns with KCA will be waste of time,,so why bother ,I really hope not . I wish all success in your future as a volunteer for the Kihei community.
