Saturday, February 23rd, Cameron Center, Wailuku is the location for the open house, as the event is described the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), where the public is encouraged to submit ideas for projects and other improvements for Maui’s transportation systems. It is a drop-in meeting, from 10:00am – 2:00pm. The MPO will provide entertainment and food for residents and their families who stop by.

Hele Mai Maui is the title of the long-range transportation plan, which is set as a goal for completion by the year 2040. Hele Mai Maui is “20-year transportation vision to ensure that our communities are connected by a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation system.” (Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization).

This initial plan was mapped out based on feedback from the Maui community over the previous eight months. The results of that feedback are organized in a fact book, which is accessible by the public online. Hele Mai Maui is touted as being supportive of the Maui Island Plan and other Community Plans around the island.

Among the many points of discussion within the plan is the long-awaited Kihei North-South Collector Road, which remains unfinished as of today. Bus service routes and rental car impacts are also discussed.

If you are unable to attend, the MPO will post an online survey, beginning February 23rd, for Maui residents to complete.
