Eclipse Willing to Participate in Public Meeting and Consider Small Changes to Big Box and Outlet Centers
Council Member Don Couch arranged a meeting with Eclipse Development Group’s (Eclipse) representatives Paul Bernard, Charles Jenks and Phil Rowell, to which the KCA BOD was invited. To our knowledge no media were permitted to attend, so we expect this will be the only source of information for our membership and the community. To clarify, Maui Weekly and Maui Now writer Tom Blackburn Rodriguez was in attendance, but we understand he is now under contract to Eclipse, so ethically would not function in this capacity on any matters anyway related to the company or their actions. In the Maui News recently, an article stated that retailers are not doing well. If the mega mall is built, how many small stores will close? How many larger retailers will reduce employees if they lose business to the mega mall?
Why doesn’t the developers do something different with their land-like build a south Maui hospital or better yet- a south Maui high school? Even homes would be better!
I don’t want Piilani highway to turn into a parking lot again and then the County government would want to make Kihei road a four lane!!
Can we find a solution that works for the South Maui community? Please.
If the businesses can’t compete, then get out of business. If retailers close up shop, that is how the system works. Where is Crazy Shirts, where is O’Rourke’s tourist trap, where is Waterworks….try to find a Countrywide Loan Office or book a flight on Pan Am –
Why doesn’t the population comprehend that this is how the system works in this Republic?
The solution is to let the market place sort it out. Vote with your wallet and your feed. These property owners have complied with the law. The law of the free market will now take over.
This is to Elaine Malina, exactly what Lee said business is business, its all about competing with others around you and trying to make the most money, to prevent shops from closing up they need to change what they sell to get the attention from what people want. And why should the developer stop what they wanna build to build a hospital or a high school?? those are not there plans nor is it their responsibility to get them built, its the DOE who takes care of the high school getting built so grumble to them.
