Quite often we tend to forget what our “first responders” do until we or a loved one or friend have a need for help. But police and fire officers are never permitted to have these lapses. This month’s Kihei Community Association (KCA) meeting examines these two county departments by welcoming our new police chief, Gary Yabuta, offering his vision of the Maui Police Department, and Denise Laitinen of Firewise Communities Hawaii, a program designed to prevent fires, along with representatives of our Fire Department, offering advice. Here’s an opportunity to not only listen and learn, but also to question these knowledgeable representatives about your issues and concerns.

The KCA encourages everyone to join the Association, but membership is not required to attend this important presentation for our residents. All are welcome at 6:00 PM to talk story with neighbors and enjoy pupu, with meeting to commence at 6:30 PM. Non-perishable food donations for the Maui Food Bank are strongly encouraged, and free cloth grocery bags from Maui County Recycling Section are available. Get in the habit of attending KCA Community meetings on the third Tuesday of each month to make South Maui a better place for all. Mahalo.
