Yesterday afternoon before a sparse audience, Committee Chair Crivello called the meeting to order about 2:00 PM. Long time affordable housing advocate Stan Franco speaking for FACE Maui was the first testifier. He generally reminded committee members of the dire need for it, and while there are many proposed projects, no guarantee they will all be constructed, and if they are, no deadline. We were the next and last testifier, speaking in support of two Kihei 100% rental housing projects set to break ground in 2018. We further used the opportunity to remind everyone of the upcoming community meeting on OCT 30 at 5;30 PM at the Community Center concerning homelessness. We were unable to remain to hear committee actions and discussion as we moved downstairs to the presentation by the contracted Orion Planning Design for the County Title 19 zoning code review. Look for a report on this meeting soon.
