7/24/16 Good thing you  braked hard. It is set for 8/1 at 3 PM-   more soon

7/20/16. Put the brakes on; we were just informed event might   be changed to the following Monday afternoon. STAY TUNED                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      July  10, 20 16          The Kihei Greenway (Phase II) extending Southward from Lipoa to the entrance to our community park on the mauka side fronting the middle school now has a scheduled blessing and grand opening set for July 29 at 10:30 AM. In essence the welcomed segregated bike path has been carrying cyclists for several weeks- see https://gokihei.org/environment/kihei-bikeway-phase-ii-is-sort-of-completed-along-liloa-fronting-school-this-morning , but this offers a sense of completion of this short section. Also it then generates community calls for more and quicker progress, e.g. extending it across the makai edge of the park to Welakahao, opening up entire new neighborhood of connectivity. Kids living here could safely cycle to school and beyond. Students at the school could safely cycle to the Public Library and beyond.

Family’s in the newer Pi’ikea subdivisions can now leave the car at home, while elementary and middle school students cycle to school and the park. If the path is extended across the park into the Waimahaihai neighborhood, they can make the Library as well as Kalama Park.  Participants, hopefully on bicycles, but all welcome, will assemble at the Community Park entrance for the blessing, followed by a safe easy bicycle ride fit for all ages and skill levels organized in cooperation with the Department (DPW) an Maui Bicycle League (MBL).

So Friday morning is a time to celebrate this accomplishment, while advocating for continuous progress. In 1998 the Community Plan repeatedly called for a more friendly bicycling and walking South Maui. Eighteen years later we are making progress. Let’s accelerate the pace. Pedal faster.
