Wastewater Treatment Effect on Ma’alaea Bay and beyond

Is it time this element be treated as a resource? 10/5/18 #kihei At the Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF) classroom in Ma’alaea, the Ma’alaea Village Association (MVA) had a meeting concerning what should and will be done with the wastewater created there by residents and businesses. There were nearly 50 in attendance, mostly Ma’alaea condo residents and others concerned with the topic.  Guest speakers were introduced, beginning with long-time KCA friend Robin Knox, probably the most frequent guest presenter at KCA. Robin spoke as the water quality expert but also gave input for Maui Ocean Center (MOC) where she currently works....

Oneloa Coalition Monthly Meeting at New Location Last Evening

10/04/18 #kihei      Last evening, this month’s Oneloa Coalition (OC) meeting was relocated from the usual site of the Pacific Whale Foundation’s (PWF) classroom to the new MAKAI THEATER AT MAUI OCEAN CENTER just up the stairs and across the parking lot. This was due to a scheduling conflict. But the change did not alter the continuing responsibility of the representatives of the various groups ensuring the preservation, restoration, and management of the State park in Makena. We will find out in November, but for now, we are submitting items 9/02/18 # kihei This evening mayor Arakawa had many of his key administration personnel assembled at the Community Center to accept community input for the next county budget which will take effect July 1, 2019. As we do almost every year, we submitted a few requests for the benefit of the South Maui community. We are unclear what effect this will have on the new mayor and his or her team, as most officials present are not expected to be part of the new team. Nearly fifty...

Next Community Meeting

November 20, 2018

6:30 To 8:00 at Saint Theresa Church at 25 West Lipoa Street.

This month’s theme is education. Department of Education Complex Area Superintendent Kathleen Dimono will give a brief presentation and solicit the community’s opinions on schools in our area. We will also hear what is happening with the new High School and with the new Kihei Charter School building.

And if that is not enough, we will also be presenting the KCA Wiliwili Award to a long-time defender of things that matter to all of us – the ʻāina, kai, and ʻohana.

Membership not required but encouraged, as are donations for Food Bank.
